The impact of COVID on your next appointment

In July 2021, in an effort to reduce face-to-face contact and the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the Australian Dental Association (ADA) released health advice urging our practice to restrict treatment to “urgent, emergency and essential treatment” or to perform treatment if delaying the treatment would result in an unfavourable result for the patient. This advice will remain in place for the duration of lockdown.  

Fluoride and Fluoride in Our Water

This is always an interesting topic to discuss with our patients due to the large role fluoride has in protecting and, in many cases, saving our teeth from tooth decay and eventual tooth loss. In saying this, we respect our patients' decisions and opinions on what products and treatments they wish to receive; however, as professionals we are always guided by science and the data. It's our responsibility as dentists to advise and offer treatment based on our education, experience and expertise.  

Ignoring oral health can have serious impacts on the rest of the body

For Dental Health Week (2-8 August), the Australian Dental Association (ADA) aimed to raise awareness amongst Australians to the very close links between what goes on in their mouths and the far-reaching effects on the rest of the body.

Previously unknown health risks for Australians – that gum disease suffered by one in three Australian adults could increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events, Type 2 diabetes and adverse pregnancy outcomes – are now coming to light following decades of dental and medical studies.
